Why Germany

The birthplace of the modern research university

Germany is one of the most respected study destinations in Europe and the model most universities around the world still follow, combining teaching and research under one roof. Since the founding of the University of Berlin in 1810, the country has remained strongly committed to public investment in higher education, which is one reason German universities continue to attract international students seeking globally recognised degrees, strong academic standards, and excellent research opportunities.

For families comparing options, it is rare elsewhere to find world-ranked engineering and research programmes with no tuition bill attached.

That makes Germany a strong shortlist choice across almost any field of study. Public universities are widely known for their academic reputation, international outlook, and structured admissions process, while many bachelor’s programmes are taught in German and a growing number of master’s programmes are available in English. Elunite helps students navigate accredited universities in Germany, match their academic profile to the right programme and language route, and support them through admission, the student visa process, blocked account preparation, and arrival in a new city.

Questions asked by students & parents

Mostly, yes. Public universities in almost every German state charge no tuition for bachelor's and consecutive master's programmes, for domestic and international students alike — you'll still pay a semester contribution of €150–€400, and Bavaria is the one state where a small number of non-EU programmes now carry tuition fees.
It depends on your programme. Most bachelor's degrees are still taught in German, so a recognised language certificate is usually required. English-taught master's programmes have grown significantly and don't require German for admission, though basic German still helps with daily life and part-time work.
The blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a German bank account that proves you can cover a year's living expenses before your student visa is issued. The mandated amount for 2026 is €11,904, set by Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).
Yes. Non-EU students on a student residence permit can work up to 140 full days or 280 half days a year — roughly 20 hours a week during term, with full-time hours allowed during semester breaks. Mandatory internships required by your degree don't count toward that limit.
Yes. Degrees from state-accredited German universities are widely respected by employers and graduate schools across Europe, the Gulf and Asia, and graduates can apply for an 18-month post-study job seeker visa to look for qualified work in Germany after finishing their degree.
